Charles A. O'Neill, Ph.D. joined BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in 2003 to lead Pharmacological Sciences. He oversees nonclinical development, including BioAnalytical Assay Research and Development, Assays Services, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Clinical and Nonclinical Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics. From 1996 through 2003, Dr. O'Neill was a Senior Scientist/Scientist in the Toxicology Department at Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company, where he led to nonclinical development efforts regarding Genentech's fibrinolytics, Activase and TNKase, as well as the anti-angiogenic monoclonal antibody, Avastin. Additionally, Dr. O'Neill contributed to the nonclinical development of Lucentis for the treatment of the neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration. Dr. O'Neill was a member of the Cardiovascular Therapeutic Area Team providing strategy and guidance regarding the development and in-licensing of cardiovascular molecules at Genentech and in this regard assessed over 30 opportunities for Genentech. Prior to Genentech, Dr. O'Neill was an Assistant Research Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of California, Davis where he investigated the role of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species during myocardial and limb ischemia and reperfusion. Currently, he is Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Graduate Group at UC Davis. Dr. O'Neill was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Dr. O'Neill has contributed to 26 regulatory submissions in the US, EU, Australia and Japan and has coauthored over 40 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. O'Neill received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from UC Davis in 1992 and has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology since 1995. |
